Larry Roy & Karl Kohut
Larry Roy has long been a fixture of the Winnipeg music scene. He is the first-call jazz guitarist in the city, he’s a busy recording engineer with his own studio, and after completing his Master’s Degree in Music at The University of Manitoba, he has formally joined the faculty of the Jazz Studies program at the University of Manitoba. Mr. Roy is a sought after arranger and composer and has been the musical director for over 150 live or pre-recorded radio and television episodes. Larry has performed extensively in clubs, sessions, concerts, workshops and master classes. In 2014, he was a Juno Nominee for Best Jazz Vocal Album, along with Erin Propp for their recording Courage My Love.
Karl Kohut maintains an active schedule, performing and recording locally, nationally, and internationally. He is in the process of compiling several volumes of transcriptions which document and analyze the playing styles of a number of contemporary icons of jazz bass. Kohut also co-leads a group along with vocalist Karly Epp, which has performed in venues throughout New York City as well as in Winnipeg. Known for his versatility on both upright bass and electric bass, Karl Kohut has performed with numerous Grammy, Juno and GMA award-winning artists, and has toured throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe.
