The fifteenth edition of the Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Festival kicks off November 24th. The Keynote Speaker is Duane Howard, the First Nations actor who portrayed “Elk Dog” in last year’s blockbuster The Revenant. He has also appeared in the Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and the television show The X Files. A former addict himself, Howard will be speak about suicide, substance abuse, and other issues important to indigenous communities. On Friday, November 25th, at Town Cinema 8, just a short ride from the Fort Gary, The Northlander, a post-apocalyptic film set in the year 2961 will premier. On Saturday the 26th, also at Town Cinema 8, you can see Sister, Daughter, a film about a young man who searches for his lost sister.
