Wine lovers and experts from across Canada and the world will soon journey to Winnipeg for the 16thannual Winnipeg Wine Festival, a week-long extravaganza starting April 30. Special events that require pre-purchased tickets include “World of Wine,” which offers a wide sampling of wines and culinary delicacies at the St. Charles Golf & Country Club, Sunday, April 30; “California Cruisin’,” in which vineyard representatives will introduce guests to the unique grape varieties from California’s famed wine-producing regions, Monday, May 1; and “Malbec and More,” where winemakers from across Argentina will show everyone that their country has much to offer in addition to Malbec, Wednesday, May 3. The main event is the Gala Dinner and Live Auction, hosted by the RBC Convention Centre on Thursday, May 4. This five-course meal with specially-paired wines is nothing if not extravagant. Finally, a series of public tastings on Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 7, round out a week that will have brought hundreds of wines representing twelve countries to venues that are all within walking- or short driving-distance from the Fort Garry Hotel.
